AMUC … a great week to be part of in Perth in January.
What is AMUC (AMong the Urban Community)?
It’s like a camp – but its focus is on discipleship.
It’s like a retreat – but with times of action.
It’s like a mission exposure trip – but in our own city.
It’s a challenge and a call to follow Jesus, to be with the rejected and marginalised.
24th – 29th January 2012; Speaker: Stephen Said

Many of us struggle with or realise that sharing faith in modern Australia is a challenging thing which requires creativity and sensitivity. Scripture Union WA is running a workshop with discussion and training in this area.
Taking advantage of a visit to Perth of Andrew “Tall Skinny Kiwi” Jones, we will explore online storytelling by “life streaming” using social media and using Oral Storytelling of the Bible in faith sharing.
Saturday 16th of April 10am – 3pm
St. Barnabas Church, 104 Woolwich St, West Leederville
Cost $20 including lunch
RSVP by April 14th ph 9371 9100 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
The presenters are;
Andrew Jones who has blogged online for many years as “Tall Skinny Kiwi” is keen to discuss and train people for online storytelling by “life streaming” using social media. He is in Perth and keen to bring this discussion and training to us.
Geoff Westlake and Peter Barney who are both keen to equip people to introduce people to Jesus through telling stories. If you can tell a joke, then you can tell a story about Jesus – a skill that is easily taught and usable by all. Peter and Geoff will be running a session that will apply Andrew Jones’ material to story-telling, with the aim of equipping with take-home skills.
See you there!
Our post a few days ago on evangelism tried to open up the topic of respectful and genuine sharing of faith. Danelle has some really great thoughts to share on this. Hope you found it helpful and thought-provoking.
Recently, a number of people have shared that they still find this an area they struggle with. So…
We are having a SUNO gathering for people trying to live as local missioners, where we will explore this topic. Danelle Hamilton will be sharing and facilitating our discussion on how we naturally and genuinely share our faith in the midst of relationship, community and Kingdom building. It’s at 10am on Saturday 20th November. Drop us an email if you want more details.
As mentioned in a previous post, the Lausanne Covenant from 1974 has been a defining document in evangelical Christianity. There is another gathering of the Lausanne Movement in 2010–and it is on NOW!! The SU WA State Director, Peter Barney is participating this week in the Lausanne Movement Conference in South Africa. He’s agreed to guest blog this week about his experiences and learnings.
If you want more info on Lausanne, check it out off the links. Here is the link to our previous post about one of the preparatory papers.
Otherwise, sit back, enjoy and engage the process with Pete. He’ll post shortly.
Gil Cann is in WA over the next week or so. Gil was pastor of Truth & Liberation Concern (John Smith’s God Squad church) for over a decade. He is well on top of cross-cultural mission and mission in the workplace and has been involved for many years with Evangelical Alliance in the cause of biblical missiology and practice.
There are two SUNO opportunities to hear and interact with Gil.
1. Friday 24th September at 7am at Kailis Bros Cafe on Oxford St Leederville. Gill will start off with a talk on “Christians on mission 24/7” followed by some valuable discussion. This brekkie is put on by Garth and the AAMS crew.
2. Saturday 2nd October at 10am at a SUNO Local Missioners gathering. Drop me an email at email@example.com for venue details.
Transform (SU’s Conference and Training Day) is close now – two days to go. You can still register for what should be a great day. See you there.
